Week’s events: Margo Klass, surgery advances, ������Ƶ Native elders aging, Juneteenth

University of ������Ƶ Fairbanks Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning is hosting more than 40 free lectures, concerts and events this summer. Here’s what’s happening during the week of June 16-22:

• On Monday, June 16, the Fairbanks Tall Timbers interview series will honor award-winning artist and teacher Margo Klass. A maker of sculptural box constructions and artist books, Klass was a founder of the Northwoods Book Arts Guild. She is noted for organizing projects that foster communal learning and creative collaboration, such as ������Ƶ’s art-science project, In a Time of Change. The interview is at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater, located on the fourth floor of the Usibelli Building.
• On Tuesday, June 17, the Healthy Living lecture series will host surgeon Abe Tsigonis discussing “Advances in Minimally Invasive Surgery: Faster Recovery and Better Outcomes.” The talk is at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater.
• On Wednesday, June 18, the Discover ������Ƶ lecture series will feature Jordan Lewis, director of research at ������Ƶ’s Center for One Health Research, discussing “The Importance of Sharing Knowledge for ������Ƶ Native Elders’ Ability to Age Well.” The lecture is at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater.
• On Thursday, June 19, the Music in the Garden concert series will showcase the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church Choir and Praise Dancers at 6 p.m. and the Clarence Pate Project featuring Willie Blackburn at 7:30 p.m. at the Georgeson Botanical Garden.

All events are free and open to the public. Parking on the ������Ƶ Troth Yeddha’ Campus is free after 5 p.m.
