Week’s events: Nicky Eiseman, daily exercise, Indigenizing research, jazz

University of Ƶ Fairbanks Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning is hosting more than 40 free lectures, concerts and events this summer. Here’s what’s happening during the week of Aug. 4-10:

  • On Monday, Aug. 4, the Fairbanks Tall Timbers interview series will honor Nicky Eiseman, whose long service to the Fairbanks community includes storytelling, teaching, community activism and a commitment to social justice and local politics. The interview is at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater, located on the fourth floor of the Usibelli Building.
  • On Tuesday, Aug. 5, the Healthy Living lecture series will host Stewart Kerr, orthopedist, presenting “The 30 Minute Health Transformation: Tips and Benefits for a Daily Exercise Routine.” The talk is at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater.
  • On Wednesday, Aug. 6, the Discover Ƶ lecture series will feature Jessica Black, Ƶ’s associate vice chancellor for rural, community and Native education, discussing “Indigenizing and Decolonizing Research.” The lecture is at 7 p.m. in the BP Design Theater.
  • On Thursday, Aug. 7, the Music in the Garden concert series will showcase Diamond Fuller at 6 p.m. and the Fairbanks Community Jazz Band at 7:30 p.m. at the Georgeson Botanical Garden.

All events are free and open to the public. Parking on the Ƶ Troth Yeddha’ Campus is free after 5 p.m.
